Η Παθητική Φωνή χρησιμοποιείται όταν δεν ξέρουμε ή δεν μας ενδιαφέρει ποιος έκανε την πράξη. Χρησιμοποιείται επίσης όταν είναι προφανές ποιος την έκανε.
Example:
My wallet was stolen this morning.
(We don’t know who did it.)
The thieves have been arrested.
(By the police of course.)
Active to Passive
1. Το αντικείμενο γίνεται υποκείμενο.
2. Το ρήμα be μπαίνει στον ίδιο χρόνο που είναι το κύριο ρήμα.
3. Το κύριο ρήμα μπαίνει στην μορφή της παθητικής μετοχής*.
4. το υποκείμενο γίνεται ποιητικό αίτιο και εισάγεται με την λέξη by.
Ας το δούμε στην πράξη:
My parents are serving breakfast.
Το “My parents” είναι το υποκείμενο της ενεργητικής πρότασης, το κύριο ρήμα “ are serving”
είναι στον Present Continuous και το αντικείμενο είναι το “breakfast”.
My parents are serving breakfast.
Breakfast is being served by the my parents

*Τι εννοούμαι με παθητική μετοχή:
1. Όταν το ρήμα είναι ομαλό τότε βάζουμε την κατάληξη -ed
wash-washed play-played
2. Όταν το ρήμα είναι ανώμαλο τότε βάζουμε την 3η στήλη
drive-drove-driven write-wrote-written
Για να μπορέσουμε να σχηματίσουμε την Παθητική Φωνή, πρέπει να ξέρουμε τους χρόνους του ρήματος BE.
Present Simple - am/is/are
Tom feeds the dog. The dog is fed by Tom.
Present Continuous - am/is/are being
Tom is feeding the dog. The dog is being fed by Tom.
Past Simple - was/were
Tom fed the dog. The dog was fed by Tom.
Past Continuous - was/were being
Tom was feeding the dog. The dog was being fed by Tom.
Present Perfect - have/has been
Tom has fed the dog. The dog has been fed by Tom.
Past Perfect - had been
Tom had fed the dog. The dog had been fed by Tom.
Future Simple - will be
Tom will feed the dog. The dog will be fed by Tom.
Future Perfect - will have been
Tom will have fed the dog. The dog will have been fed by Tom.
Going to - am/is/are going to be
Tom is going to feed the dog. The dog is going to be fed by Tom.
Modals (can, should, must) - modal + be (can be, should be, must be)
Tom should feed the dog The dog should be fed by Tom.
